Jacques Ortet
“I am a passionate adventurer and globetrotter. After my studies I had the opportunity to travel overseas, reside in many countries, while pursuing a career in the energy sector. I was captivated by the culture and traditions of the various countries that I visited. I realised that cultures are not better than one another but rich from their differences. Also, I enjoyed inventing adventure stories to my children on regular basis. They still remember them many years later. So, adventures, travel, expertise in energy and storytelling prepared me for my second career: the creation of comic books.
After many years, having terminated my professional life, I decided to memorise my discoveries, impressions, challenges, nightmares and experiences of all sorts and capture them in books. I chose comic books. It is more work to produce but more fun to do. Illustrations can also be better than words. The first book was created after my last mission in the energy business and this was in Kazakhstan. Creating a comic book is just not easy and it took about two years to produce the first one. The second one, on Gabon, includes also many discoveries, souvenirs and surprises. The same applied when the adventure in Scotland was produced. Now, with the Middle East, soon to be released and the Netherlands in progress, the list of adventures is endless with Borneo and France to follow. They all include some debate on biodiversity and/or energy, be it fossil and/or renewable with discussions on the transition. What is also unique is the variety of nationalities from each comic book contributor, a mix of French, Kazakh, Dutch, British, American…”
